Zamfara State is in the North-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria, with Gusau as its capital. Created in 1996 from part of Sokoto State, it is bordered by the Niger Republic to the north, Kaduna State to the south, Katsina to the east, and Sokoto, Kebbi and Niger States to the west, and comprises fourteen local government areas. Zamfara's economy is largely agrarian and rich in solid minerals, particularly gold. Opportunities span cereals, cotton, groundnuts, livestock, gold and other solid minerals, and agro-processing. Public finance and development priorities focus on agriculture, artisanal and formal mining, security, infrastructure and growing internally generated revenue.
