Yobe State is in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, a mainly agricultural state created on 27 August 1991 from the former Borno State. It borders Borno to the east, Gombe to the south, Bauchi and Jigawa to the west and the Niger Republic to the north; its capital is Damaturu, while Potiskum is its largest and most populous city. Yobe's economy is anchored in agriculture, livestock and trade, with Potiskum hosting one of West Africa's largest cattle markets. Opportunities span cereals, groundnuts, gum arabic, livestock and hides, fisheries, agro-processing and cross-border commerce. Public finance and development priorities focus on agriculture, livestock value chains, infrastructure, human capital, and strengthening internally generated revenue.
