About
Oyo State is in the South-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria, with Ibadan — one of the country's largest cities — as its capital. Created in 1976, it is bordered by Kwara State to the north, Osun to the east, Ogun to the south-west and the Benin Republic to the west. The state sits on the territory of the historic Oyo Empire and is nicknamed the “Pace Setter State”. Oyo's economy remains largely agrarian while hosting a substantial education, health and services sector centred on Ibadan, home to Nigeria's first university (1948). Opportunities span cassava, cocoa, tobacco, poultry, agro-processing, manufacturing and ICT. Public finance and development priorities focus on agriculture, industry, infrastructure and expanding internally generated revenue.
