Nasarawa State is in the North-Central geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Taraba and Plateau to the east, Kaduna to the north, Kogi and Benue to the south, and the Federal Capital Territory to the west. Named after the historic Nasarawa Emirate, it was formed in 1996 from the western part of Plateau State; its capital is Lafia, while the Karu urban area on the FCT border is a key economic centre. Nasarawa's economy is anchored in agriculture and an exceptional endowment of solid minerals, earning it the nickname “Home of Solid Minerals”. Opportunities span cereals, yam, sesame, solid minerals (including barite, salt and gemstones), agro-processing and proximity-driven services linked to Abuja.
