About

Lagos State is in the South-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria and, though the smallest state by area, is the most populous. Bounded by the Bight of Benin to the south, the Benin Republic to the west and Ogun State to the east and north, it was formed in 1967 from the Western Region and the former Federal Capital Territory. It takes its name from the city of Lagos, Africa's most populous city. Lagos is Nigeria's undisputed economic and financial capital, generating an economy larger than that of most African countries. Its highly diversified economy spans finance, trade, manufacturing, maritime and port logistics, real estate, entertainment and a thriving technology sector. With the strongest internally generated revenue base of any Nigerian state, public finance priorities focus on sustaining fiscal self-reliance, financing mega-infrastructure, and deepening the ease of doing business.
