About

Kogi State is in the North-Central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and the only state bordering ten others — Ekiti and Kwara to the east, the Federal Capital Territory to the north, Nasarawa to the north-east, Niger to the north-west, Edo and Ondo to the south-west, Anambra and Enugu to the south-east, and Benue to the west. Formed in 1991 from parts of Benue, Niger and Kwara States, it is nicknamed the “Confluence State” because the Niger and Benue rivers meet beside its capital, Lokoja. Kogi's economy is built on agriculture and a rich endowment of solid minerals. Opportunities include cereals, cassava, oil palm, cashew, coal, iron ore, limestone and dolomite, supporting agro-processing and cement and steel production (notably at Obajana and Itakpe). Public finance and development priorities focus on solid minerals, agriculture, infrastructure, and expanding internally generated revenue.
