About

Katsina State is in the North-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria, created in 1987 when it split from Kaduna State. It is bordered by Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano and Jigawa States, and shares an international border with the Niger Republic to the north; Katsina city is the capital. Nicknamed the “Home of Hospitality”, both Katsina and the historic town of Daura are noted seats of Islamic learning. Katsina's economy is predominantly agricultural, supported by livestock and cross-border trade. Opportunities lie in cereals, cotton, groundnuts, livestock and hides, solid minerals and agro-processing, with growing interest in renewable energy given the state's solar potential. Public finance and development priorities focus on agriculture, infrastructure, human capital, and strengthening internally generated revenue.
