About
Kano State is in the North-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria, created in 1967 from the former Northern Region. It is bordered by Katsina to the north-west, Jigawa to the north-east, Bauchi to the south-east and Kaduna to the south-west, with Kano city — Nigeria's second most populous city — as its capital. Kano is the commercial and industrial nerve centre of northern Nigeria, with a centuries-old tradition of trade and manufacturing. Its economy spans commerce, textiles, tanning and leather, agro-processing and a large agricultural base of groundnuts, cereals and livestock. Public finance and development priorities focus on revitalising industry and infrastructure, building human capital, and expanding internally generated revenue.
