About
Jigawa State is in the North-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria, created in 1991 from the north-eastern part of Kano State. It shares an international border with the Republic of Niger to the north and has Dutse as its capital; the state comprises 27 local government areas. Jigawa's economy is largely agrarian, supported by extensive farmland and livestock. Its main opportunities lie in cereals, groundnuts, sesame, cotton, livestock and hides, agro-processing and cross-border trade with the Niger Republic. Public finance and development priorities focus on agriculture, infrastructure, human capital, and the growth of internally generated revenue and private investment.
