Gombe State (Fula: Leydi Gombe) is in north-eastern Nigeria, bordered to the north and northeast by the state of Borno and Yobe, to the south by Taraba State, to the southeast by Adamawa State, and to the west by Bauchi State. Named for the city of Gombe, the state's capital and largest city. Gombe State was formed from a part of Bauchi State on 1 October 1996. Nicknamed the “Jewel in the Savannah”, Gombe serves as a strategic commercial and logistics hub for the North-East, linking agricultural markets and trade routes across neighbouring states. The state’s economy is anchored in agriculture, livestock, trade and emerging industrial activity, with opportunities in cereals, groundnuts, cotton, livestock, fisheries, agro-processing, energy and light manufacturing. Recent public finance and development priorities have focused on improving the business environment, expanding infrastructure, strengthening internally generated revenue, and attracting private investment through initiatives such as the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, Gombe Goes Green and the state’s long-term DEVAGOM development plan.
