Ebonyi State is in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Benue State to the north and north-east, Enugu State to the west, Cross River to the east and south-east, and Abia State to the south-west. Named after the Aboine (Ebonyi) River, it was created in 1996 from parts of the old Abia and Enugu States and has Abakaliki as its capital. Ebonyi is renowned as a leading rice-producing state and a hub for solid minerals. Its economy is anchored in agriculture — rice, cassava, yam and vegetables — alongside rich deposits of lead, zinc, salt and limestone. Opportunities exist in rice milling and agro-processing, solid mineral development, manufacturing, and services. Public finance and development priorities focus on agriculture and mineral value chains, infrastructure and growing internally generated revenue.
