About

Benue State is in the North-Central geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Nasarawa to the north, Taraba to the east, Kogi to the west, Enugu to the south-west, and Ebonyi and Cross River to the south, with an international border with Cameroon to the south-east. Created in 1976, it takes its name from the River Benue, Nigeria's second-largest river, and has Makurdi as its capital. Widely known as the “Food Basket of the Nation”, Benue is one of Nigeria's most productive agricultural states. Its economy is anchored in crops such as yam, cassava, soya bean, rice, sesame, citrus, mango and oil palm, alongside livestock and a growing agro-processing sector. Public finance and development priorities centre on agricultural value chains, infrastructure, security and strengthening internally generated revenue.
