Bauchi State is in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Kano and Jigawa to the north, Taraba and Plateau to the south, Gombe and Yobe to the east, and Kaduna to the west. It takes its name from the historic town of Bauchi, which also serves as its capital. Formed in 1976 from the former North-Eastern State, it originally included present-day Gombe State, which became a separate state in 1996. Bauchi's economy is largely agricultural, supported by extensive arable land, livestock and strong tourism potential. Opportunities include cereals, groundnuts, cotton, livestock and hides, solid minerals, agro-processing and tourism anchored by Yankari National Park, Nigeria's premier wildlife reserve. Public finance and development priorities focus on infrastructure, agricultural value chains, human capital and growing internally generated revenue.
